What You'll Do

We are currently seeking a Tax Director to lead and manage all aspects of the company’s global tax strategy, emphasizing achieving an optimized effective tax rate (ETR) and ensuring compliance with direct tax obligations worldwide. This role involves strategic planning, compliance oversight, and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders to maintain a robust and efficient tax function aligned with global and jurisdictional requirements.  Specific responsibilities may include:

 

Global Effective Tax Rate Management 

  • Assume full ownership of the Global Effective Tax Rate (ETR).
  • Develop and implement strategies to optimize the company’s global ETR. 
  • Assess the tax impact of business operations, organizational changes, and transactions. 
  • Deliver actionable insights and recommendations to senior leadership to support strategic decision-making. 

Tax Compliance and Reporting

  • Oversee the review and accuracy of quarterly and annual tax calculations, ensuring compliance with local and international tax regulations and alignment with the Group’s standards. 
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure adherence to jurisdictional tax reporting requirements. 
  • Partner with the Group finance reporting team to confirm the accurate reflection of tax provisions and uncertain tax positions. 
  • Coordinate with external tax service providers to ensure accurate and timely tax submissions, actively monitoring CITR compliance and leading corrective actions when required. 

Strategic Tax Planning and Advisory 

  • Develop and implement tax strategies to optimize the company’s tax position while minimizing risks and liabilities. 
  • Provide expert advice on corporate transactions, mergers & acquisitions, and cross-border operations to ensure tax efficiency. 
  • Monitor global tax developments (e.g., BEPS, Pillar Two) and implement processes to maintain compliance and competitiveness. 
  • Contribute to tax-efficient financing structures and corporate planning initiatives to simplify and optimize the Group's capital structure. 
  • Oversee intercompany financing and capitalization projects, ensuring alignment with the Group's tax strategy. 
  • Plan and execute annual dividend distributions, ensuring compliance with tax regulations and business objectives. 
  • Leverage tax technology solutions to enhance efficiency and accuracy in tax planning and compliance. 
  • Serve as a trusted advisor, communicating regulatory changes, risks, and opportunities to internal stakeholders and senior leadership. 

  Tax Audits, tax disputes and Mutual Agreement Procedures (MAP)

  • Lead the tax audit process with tax authorities, local finance personnel and external tax advisors across multiple jurisdictions to ensure efficient audit processes and minimize disputes. 
  • Lead the preparation of audit documentation and replies and communication with tax authorities. 
  • Ensure timely and effective resolution of disputes during tax audits or through MAPs. 
  • Coordinate and oversee preparation of replies and appeals in tax dispute processes aiming to minimize the adverse tax and reputational consequences  

 Stakeholder Management 

  • Act as point of contact for direct tax matters for internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Regularly communicate tax opportunities and potential risks to senior leadership, providing insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making and long-term business planning. 
  • Serve as a trusted tax advisor to the business, offering guidance on key tax issues and ensuring that tax risks are appropriately managed. 

 Team Leadership

  • Build and lead a high-performing global tax team, including recruitment, mentoring, and performance management. 
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development within the team. 

What We're Looking For

This role requires an undergraduate degree in a financial discipline; CPA, LL.M. or advanced degree preferred.  We are looking for a candidate with 10+ years of corporate tax experience preferably with a combination of Big 4 and consumer goods.  Other qualifications include:

 

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Must demonstrate a business-oriented mindset with a proactive, hands-on attitude and willingness to operate both at a strategic and/or tactical level
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to collaborate and influence others within and outside the tax organization
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, global matrix organization
  • Strong work ethic and accountability, with excellent prioritization & organizational skills and willingness to get things done 
  • Resilience, and ability to operate in fast-paced and changing environment
  • Able to see the big picture and identify development opportunities

This role is ideally based in the New York City or Chicagoland area, though remote based candidates are encouraged to apply as we are prioritizing candidate fit over physical location. 

  • In New York, this role will work a flexible hybrid model based in our New York Office, located in the Flatiron District.
  • In Chicago, this role will work a flexible hybrid model based at Wilson Sporting Goods Co. global headquarters. Located in the vibrant, sports-centric city of Chicago, the Wilson headquarters sits along the lakefront with first-class access to a burgeoning creative, innovative, energetic and active professional community.

A reasonable estimate of the pay range is $180,000-225,000 per year at the time of this posting.  Within the range, individual pay is determined by factors such as job-related skills, relevant experience, education, and/or training.  Please note that the range reflects the base pay only and does not include our competitive bonus program.
